Room For Improvement

June 27, 2012adminINSIGHTS0

Building owners and businesses look to deploy energy efficiency strategies that do not require significant up-front expense, but yield significant benefits.

Energy efficiency efforts within an organization can take many forms.  While there have been significant strides made in new solutions, there is plenty of room for improving building efficiency and sustainability.

Large or small, energy efficiency efforts are much easier to accomplish in owner-occupied buildings. A recent survey published by the Institute for Building Efficiency in 2012, suggest that significant gains could be realized by improving landlord and tenant energy efficiency efforts.  Owners are motivated to reduce cost, but barriers that stem from “split incentives” to install upgrades are identified within the survey as one of the key barriers to bringing parties together on projects.

The survey provides tips and recommendations to make landlord and commercial tenant energy efficiency efforts a success.

Save Energy Systems is playing a role in the solution by providing small to mid-sized facility owners and tenants with a simple, pragmatic system that automatically manages HVAC energy use and reduces electricity costs by 11-15% monthly.  Given that heating and air-conditioning costs can account for 40-60% of a business’s electric bill, we think this can provide a good first step, and are fast at work on ways we’ll help you improve on that.
